| Every few weeks,
GCOL publishes an email to our members
with tips for using the Internet and our service. We also archive those tips

Welcome to Gibson County Online's first edition
of TIPS! Remember the first time you found a shortcut home? Or when
you learned short division instead of long? The end result was the
same, but getting there was so much easier! That's the purpose of
this newsletter. Here at Gibson County Online
we know you're busy, and we'd like to share a few tips to make
your Internet use smoother and more enjoyable. Every few weeks
we'll pass along a new tip or two.
In this week's issue:
Content Overload!
Has this ever happened to you?
You search for something, and you're brought to web page with a seemingly
insurmountable number of paragraphs, sentences, and words to hunt through.
Who has time for that?
Well, next time this happens to you, hit the EDIT menu, then FIND (or
CTRL-F for you shortcut lovers.) You'll get a handy little "find" box
that lets you type in a specific word. Type in the word or phrase you
need to find, and you'll be zapped to the first occurrence of that word
on the page. "FIND NEXT" will take you to the next, and so on.
Playing Favorites
Maybe it's the news, your stock updates, or an article about meatloaf.
Everyone has favorites. Favorites and bookmarks are the same thing,
it just depends what browser you are using. Now if you're like me
and you have lots and lots of favorites, here's a little tip you will
like. If you are using Internet Explorer, click the "Favorites" menu
then hit the first letter of the favorite you're looking for. The
first item with that letter will be highlighted. If that isn't the
right favorite, tap that letter again. The next favorite beginning
with that letter will be highlighted. Once you land on the favorite
you're trying to find, hit the "Enter" key.
ALTernate Keyality
Not a huge tip, but just something a little fun. Do you get tired of
switching from your mouse to your keyboard and back again when you go
forward and back on the net?
Use your ALT key and the left and right arrows to go forward and back
easily. You can also use your ALT key with the "home" key to skip back
to your homepage with Internet Explorer.
